FASHIONmiami was the setting on Saturday, March 13th, 2010 for the catwalk presentation of the designer’s new autumn-winter “Hairy Metal” 2010-11 collection.

Sparkling metals melted into pure lines to form new volumes that contrast with the warmth of fur. The Design District provided the backdrop for an energized audience of more than 1,000 celebrities, VIP’s and press from all over the world, including the main actors from the hit TV series Burn Notice, Gabrielle Anwar and Jeffrey Donovan, former Miami Heat Rony Seikaly, Grammy Award winner Jon Secada, and Alexia Echevarria, cast member from Bravo’s Real Housewives of Miami, attended the show.

Under the name ‘Hairy Metal’, Custo Barcelona presented a collection where the indisputable protagonists were metallic sparkles. Miami saw a strong, energetic and contemporary collection, in keeping with a new era.  Bronze, steel, gold, black and rust comprise a new colour palette which is mixed with graphics inspired by mercury, melted silver, red hot iron and tin.

The cold of metal is contrasted with fake fur, which has been developed in every imaginable form. Hairs of different lengths and colours have been mixed together to create new graphic effects that are sinuous, geometric or crossed. Different types of furs have also been mixed with wools to match the colour graphics and produce volumes that create new depth.

A primitive looking collection that brings cold and warmth face-to-face. Of contrasting looks.  Of melting metals. A veritable ode to the periodic table of elements. An invitation to experiment. A mysterious and spectacular show courtesy of Custo Barcelona, who has managed to surprise us once again.

Julie Henderson and Russell Simmons were caught frolicking in the waters of Miami not too long ago. The two were seen splashing back and forth, kissing, and just having a good time in the Florida Waters.

Julie Henderson was ‘discovered’ when she was 13 at the Barbizon Modeling School of Texas. Not too long after she was appearing in Elle Girl and Teen Vogue. She modeled on the tv show Behind the Velvet Rope as well. In 2002, she was named “overall professional female model of the year” at the Modeling Association of America International Convention. Julie Henderson subsequently booked gigs worldwide and began doing print work for magazines like Harper’s Bazaar. In 2007, she made her first appearance in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and returned in 2008 and 2009.

Born March 19, 1986, she is probably best known for her work with SI; she appeared in their Swimsuit issue five years in a row. Anne Vyalitsyna was born in the Russian city of Nizhny Novgorod, formerly known as Gorky. Both her parents are doctors; her father is a sports doctor for a soccer team and her mother is a pediatrician.

She started her professional modeling career at the age of 15, after IMG scouts discovered her in Saint Petersburg while looking for new faces for MTV’s Fashionably Loud Europe. She entered and ended up winning their modeling contest along with a contract with IMG Paris and, later, IMG New York.

Recently she was spotted down in South Beach sporting a sexy bikini and chatting it up on her cell phone.

The clothing was beautiful and very innovative. It was fresh, different, and very sexy. Following the show was a great after party for V Del Sol.I am sure we will see this swimwear from this collection on beachs everywhere, very soon. V Del Sol was the perfect show to close the week out for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim.

The Brazilians always seem to be ahead of the curve as far as fashion goes, and this year was no different. The Brazilian design cues were quite evident and sexy. CIA Maritima’s swimwear was very sharp and elegant, which in my opinion made it stand out from the other shows at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim.

I love Ed Hardy’s punk/rock/hip styling and this year was no different. The hair and make-up was radical, the clothing was new and exciting, with hints back to the past in design and styling and the music was great, as well as the rock bands that the models wore. The Ed Hardy show was one of my favorites for the week, as well as many others as well. The after party at La Cote was a great way to have some fun after the show. I am already looking forward to seeing Ed Hardy at next years Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim.

The environment was a rocker/hippie/street fusion which might sound strange, but trust me it worked very well. Similar to Ed Hardy, but more retro rocker, True Religion was more of an innovative reflection of the late 1960’s, early 1970’s. While roaming around backstage, I had the opportunity to talk with True Religion designer, Jeff Lubell. He told me that his clothing line, and ideas comes from his soul. He had this idea of having a bohemian/hippie/rocker clothing line from like the 1960’s and 70’s. This was only backed up during the show itself with the atmosphere; the lights went up and the models marched out with attitude to the music of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Lynard Skynard, Pink Floyd, and other artists of the time. Lee Dalberg also provided his signature rock bands which made the show even more special. So far, the True Religion show is my favorite show of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, but we have to wait until Sunday for my final pick!

Tibi put on an amazing show, as usual, with excellent and eloquent designs. I had the pleasure of talking to Tibi’s designer Amy Smilovic. She told me that when she started planning this collection all the way back at last year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, that she designed it with sort of an Indonesian style in mind. She wanted it to be stylish and sleek. Well I think she achieved just that in this years line, and then some.

Playboy swimsuits were the talk of the night Sunday at Set on Lincoln Road. At an off site venue, Playboy debuted their much awaited swimwear line during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. Although we are all used to seeing they Playmates modeling without any clothes on, it was nice to see the same models showing off the chic creations that Playboy had made with their partners, Ingear. The sexy and laid back setting of Set wen hand in hand with the sexy swimsuits that were offered up by Playboy and their models. Even though the venue was not the Raleigh Hotel, Set made for an interesting change up in scenery and turned out to be quite the appropriate place for the show. Some of the models who appeared in the show were Melina Fascianna, Tami Donaldson, Ericka Underwood, Tania Lamanna, Amanda Quagliata, Jillian Beyor, and Erica Chevillar. The Swimsuits were like the women, beautiful.
