Tibi is one of my favorite collections to begin with, and after the presentation put on at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, this view is only reinforced. Tibi put on an amazing show, as usual, with excellent and eloquent designs. I had the pleasure of talking to Tibi’s designer Amy Smilovic. She told me that when she started planning this collection all the way back at last year’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, that she designed it with sort of an Indonesian style in mind. She wanted it to be stylish and sleek. Well I think she achieved just that in this years line, and then some.

Tibi began the weekend right at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami! Tibi’s expanding list of collections has grown, with resort marking the launch of designer Amy Smilovic’s first swimwear offerings. The new line premiered on July 18 with Smilovic’s Swimwear opening the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim at the Raleigh Hotel.  Bold prints and bright colors inspired by Indonesian travels were the main theme in the clothing. Smilovic’s genius designs were definitely a highlight of the show.

Her father’s interest and talent as an artist was influential at an early age when Amy began focusing on her ability to bring to life her vibrant fashion ideas through unique illustrations. Each season Amy designs a range of prints that match her sense of style and eccentric approach to dressing. Each collection is heavily influenced by Amy’s lifestyle and travels throughout Asia and Europe, including the beaches of Bali, forests of New Zealand and Mediterranean landscape of Capri.  These combined comprise her uniquely inspired collections. Smilovic left her mark on the MBFWS for 2008.

Tibi’s expanding list of ever growing collections has just gotten larger. Resort 2008 marks the launch of the highly requested and much anticipated swimwear line.  “We’ve waited to introduce swim until I had a very strong, clear and unique direction. While the market has a variety of great offerings, I wanted to create a selection of patterns immediately identifiable. You won’t mistake my suits for any other designers” says owner and creative director Amy Smilovic.

Ikat and batik prints are the underlying design throughout, inspired by her roots working in Indonesia prior to launching the brand in 1997. Naturally, Amy’s identifiable eye for stellar color combinations has translated into this swimwear collection as well. While the body styles are classic with triangle, bandeau and under wire tops paired with bikini or boy short bottoms, the prints were pulled from the archives of eccentric yet sophisticated vintage Tibi patterns, dating back to its first year in business. “The key is print scale, print placement and color choices”.

Amy plans to open Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim on Friday, July 18th as the premier show. Twelve prints, two color ways each and six body styles (including a chic, naval bearing one piece) will be shown with linen cover ups and select key styles from the Resort 2008 clothing collection. Prices range from $180 – $220 retail.

Additionally, Luxottica’s Vogue eyewear will be providing glasses for several of the runway looks. Amy chose to work with Vogue because of their fashion forward, feminine and chic eyewear which is a natural fit with the Tibi brand and image.

Other recently launched collections include shoes (Fall 06), wallpaper in collaboration with Flavor Paper (Spring 2008) and custom made rugs (Spring 2008). More to follow in the coming season’s.

Tibi’s unique style is a mix of sophisticated, chic, clean and fashionable designs. The prints in each collection are designed by Amy and are often inspired by not only her travels throughout the world, but fabulous vintage clothing as well.  Sold in over 500 boutiques and department stores worldwide, Tibi is known for its superior quality and impeccable detailing. The clothing has been worn by many top celebrities including Sarah Jessica Parker, Scarlett Johansson, Kylie Minogue and Reese Witherspoon.

Luxottica Group is a global leader in eyewear, with over 6,000 optical and sun retail stores in North America, Asia-Pacific, China, South Africa and Europe and a strong brand portfolio that includes Ray-Ban, the best selling sun and prescription eyewear brand in the world, as well as among others, license brands Bvlgari, Burberry, Chanel, Dolce&Gabbana, Donna Karan, Polo Ralph Lauren, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo and Versace, and key house brands Oakley, Oliver Peoples, Vogue, Persol, Arnette and REVO.
